Grains

The evolution of the flowering plants with their protein-rich seeds enabled the mammalian species to flourish. The planting and harvesting of the seeds of grasses, or grains, allowed civilization to develop. For countless generations, grains and legumes have provided the foundation for human life. This is no less true today. In fact, along with vegetables and fruit they form the bottom layers of the food pyramid of dietary recommendations.*

It was in recognition and celebration of this that Global Pantry World Food Co. was begun with the goal of making available in the contemporary kitchen these ancient life-giving foods in all the diversity they have been given by various climates and cultures. Our products provide the basis for healthy, quick, and convenient meals -simply add fresh vegetables and supplementary protein to the menu for a delicious and satisfying meal.

* The Food Pyramid is a concept adopted by dietitians to replace older ideas about the basic four food groups and to show the relative proportions in which food should be consumed. In this concept, grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruit should make up the bulk of our diet, with dairy products, nuts, meat, and fats eaten in smaller portions or as "garnish". Not only is this diet healthy for humans, at GLOBAL PANTRY we believe it is healthier for the planet and for society as a whole. Cutting back our consumption of meat means more grains are available for humans and, therefore, reduces world hunger as well as ecosystem damage caused by over-grazing and pollution of ground water by cattle. It is nice to realize that eating tasty nutritious food can have positive impacts beyond personal satisfaction and health!
